Ch-ch-ch-changes...

So after two wedding related meltdowns, we are changing things up! I am looking at this as a positive and trying to gain back a happy outlook on this wedding. I think it was becoming a case of too many cooks in the kitchen (which can happen when wedding funds are coming from a variety of sources - lesson learned, pay for your own wedding!)

Basically, I was told that because of our colour scheme the wedding is going to look like a bee (so not true!), which is apparently ugly. Thanks, Mom. So as much as I loved our yellow-inspired colour scheme, that comment kind of turned me off the whole yellow look. Now, we are going from this:

I'm really excited! Originally, we had wanted to go for a more purple/green, black and white colour palette, so this is getting a bit back to basics. D's favourite colour is green, so he is obvs really happy with the change, and I think it just looks fresh, clean and modern. Love. I am especially inspired by the tablescape (is that a word) in the above board, 2nd row, last picture. I'm thinking white linens, black table runner, green napkins, a mix of various white, fluffy flowers in milk glass vases. It's going to be great!

You might think I'm crazy changing something like this up when we have less thank 5 months to go... yikes. But luckily, I'm a procrastinator extraordinaire, so we don't have anything big done yet that would really create a problem. Despite all my lofty goals, I have yet to start any DIY projects. Trust me, DIY is not my friend!

So... yes. White, black, shades of green, some greys and silvers, milk glass, fresh, crisp + clean. This is the new theme we're aiming for. Fingers crossed!

The Shoe Saga Continues...

So I've been stalking every online shoe retailer I can think of, looking for inspiration and for the perfect wedding shoes. Today I found these babies:

They are super close to my original inspiration here, but I'm just not feeling it. Don't get me wrong, they are pretty cute, but not only will these babies put me at just about the same height as D (who's 6'4") but I will probably trip my way down the aisle in them. And forget dancing all night!

What's a girl to do? Any yellow/black/white shoe inspiration for me?

The Perfect Shoes!

So last night, D and I went to see Legally Blonde: The Musical (he got me tickets for Christmas... Thanks, D!) and I saw the PERFECT wedding shoes. Like, perfect! So, now I'm on a hunt.

So good!

They were yellow platform peep-toes with white toe and heel with black polka dots... am I explaining this properly?

Anyways, they were kind of like this style, but the part over the toes and behind the heel was white with black polka dots. Super nice and super appropriate for my black, white and yellow wedding!

So, question. Have any of you seen a shoe like this before or know at all what I mean? Where could I find a shoe like that. Seriously... love!

I'm loving this inspiration board that I stumbled upon! I think we definitely need to incorporate grey into our colour scheme.

What inspires you?

The Evolution of the Colour Palette

Choosing colours for the wedding make a huge impact on the overall look and feel of the event. Due to our long engagement, our colour palette has had a lot of time to evolve and change.

The initial inspiration came from choosing the bridesmaids dresses. In an effort to be as low-key a bride as possible, I told my bridesmaids that instead of me picking out a dress in some horrid colour for them to wear, they could pick their own black dresses. I know this is becoming more and more of a trend now, so I hopped on the bandwagon. The good thing about letting the girls pick out their own dresses is that they might already have the perfect LBD at home and that way they don't even have to buy a new one. Also, it gives them the option of picking out a flattering style to their body type, something they actually like, and something they will *hopefully* wear again.

After I knew black was in the mix, I tried to think of colours that would accent and complement it. Obviously white would be in there, since it's a wedding, but what else? So I made the decision that we should each pick our favourite colour and together with black and white, that would be our colour scheme. So, after picking the colours (green for him, purple for me), we had a colour palette!

Keep in mind, this was a loooong time ago, closer to when we were first engaged, and when damask was oh so popular. I was head over heels for damask, and knew it would be perfect for our July evening wedding. Plus, after picking the perfect venue, the whole black, white, purple, green seemed to fit. Loved it, done.

But when you are engaged for 2+ years, things change and it's impossible not to get new ideas. There was something not vibing about this colour scheme, so I decided to drop the purple from our colour palette. Big change! With a black, white and green palette, things looked so fresh and bright. I had visions of centrepieces with limes, tall grasses, little topiaries... yeah, all over the place!

And then, I changed my mind. Again. How annoying am I? Just call me Indecisive Bride. So, this is the new plan and I love it and it has (so far) stuck. Black, white, lemon yellow... and maybe bits of gray. For example, in my wedding envy inspiration I posted here, the groom wore a gray suit while the groomsmen wore black. Love that little pop, especially since the idea of the guys in yellow vests to 'set them apart' makes me want to vom.
